Visions expand your party’s roles in Final Fantasy Resonance

Lasswell focuses on staggering enemies, but pairing him with Medic Leah adds healing and the option to pass his turn to an ally. Visions give you more room to tailor your party’s abilities to your playstyle.

More choices for your party

A character’s class defines their role, while Visions expand what they can do. You equip these companions to the main party members in Final Fantasy Resonance, so choosing a companion also means choosing which abilities you want available in battle.

Lasswell shows how this works in practice. His Breaker class focuses on staggering enemies. Equip him with the Vision Medic Leah, and he can use healing magic and pass his turn to an ally. That gives him two more ways to support the team alongside his main role.

That combination is what makes the system interesting from a player’s perspective: when choosing a companion, you can consider what a party member lacks or which extra option you want to give them. A familiar name has its appeal, but specific abilities give that choice practical value.

What they bring to battle

Visions provide different magic and attacks, along with permanent boosts to base stats such as health and speed. Their contribution covers both your choice of combat moves and the development of the party members themselves. Both are worth considering when deciding whom to equip.

They also have a cinematic finishing attack, but you first need to meet a condition: every opponent must be staggered. You can then choose the finishing attack of one of your equipped Visions. The choice you made when equipping your party thus has another use during combat.

There are also Espers, who can join a battle for a set number of turns. Duration is the key detail here: their help is available for a limited time.

How abilities are unlocked

Vision progression has two separate parts. The first involves mastery points, which each equipped Vision earns by winning battles. Further mastery progression unlocks abilities, with Zidane providing a specific example: this progression gives him access to the Steal skill.

The second part involves the magicite you collect during your adventure. With it and a visit to Moogle of Light, you can raise your Visions’ base ranks and unlock additional abilities.

It helps to keep those two steps separate when tracking progression. Victories earn mastery points for equipped companions, while collected magicite is used to raise their base ranks at Moogle of Light. Both paths unlock abilities, but they call for different activities from the player.

How many companions you can find

You can find 26 Visions throughout the game. That number gives you a sense of the scope for exploring combinations, while Lasswell and Medic Leah best illustrate why those combinations might interest you: extra abilities expand what a party member can offer the team.

Final Fantasy Resonance launches on PlayStation 5 on October 22.
