Football Manager 27: more control over responsibilities, pace and tactics

Football Manager 27 brings new options for adjusting the pace of play on PC, alongside tactical tools that connect your ideas with your squad’s capabilities. You can leave training to your coaching staff and choose how involved you want to be.

How much do you want to take on?

If building tactics is what interests you most in Football Manager 27, training doesn’t have to be your responsibility straight away. You can delegate it to your coaching staff. For someone just getting started, that’s a practical way to choose what to focus on first.

The PC version also introduces new options for adjusting the pace of play. There are two separate choices here: which responsibilities you want to handle yourself, and what rhythm suits you. Delegating training addresses the first; the new pace settings address the second.

From a player’s perspective, that freedom to choose seems like the most useful starting point. You don’t have to find every managerial responsibility equally interesting to want to run a team.

From ideas to tactics

A tactical idea only makes sense once you consider who has to put it into practice. The new Tactical Effectiveness feature measures how well equipped your players are to deliver your footballing vision. Its focus is the relationship between your plan and your squad’s capabilities.

That’s a useful way to think about tactics: alongside how you want your team to play, there’s the question of how well that approach suits them. The feature’s name may sound technical, but what it measures is very concrete.

Another new feature, Tactical Tweaks, lets you make several tactical changes with a single button press. While Tactical Effectiveness tells you how well equipped the squad is to carry out your plan, Tactical Tweaks combines multiple adjustments into one command. The two features therefore serve different purposes when working on tactics.

A faster pace and returning events

The console version offers a more streamlined experience and a faster pace. If you’re deciding which version to choose, that’s an important difference in how they play: the console edition emphasises a faster flow, while PC gets new options for adjusting the pace.

Separately from those differences, Football Manager 27 brings back Cup Draws and Transfer Deadline Day. Alongside the changes to managing responsibilities and tactics, these events from the football calendar return too.

Platforms and access

Football Manager 27 Console Edition launches for Xbox Series X|S on November 10. Both the PC and console versions will be included in a Game Pass subscription.

Access through Game Pass requires a subscription. The game’s inclusion does not give you permanent ownership of it. That’s an important distinction if you plan to begin your managerial career through the subscription.
